MICHAEL STANDS UP AND THE KING OF THE NORTH

MICHAEL STANDS UP FIRST AT EZEK.9

(2 SC #5, 6. 1936)

“Revelation 8:1, speaking of the silence in Heaven for the space of half an hour, proves to be the event of the fulfillment of Ezekiel 9. at which time "shall Michael stand up."  It is at this juncture that Christ puts on His garments of vengeance and surprises the hypocrites in Zion.  See "Testimonies for the Church," Vol. 5, p. 690.” (2 SC #5, 6 p10)

(2SC #2 p4. 1936)

“As the 144,000 are to go through the time of the anger of the nations -- the time of trouble such as never was -- as well as through the time of the wrath of God and yet be preserved for translation, and as the anger of the nations must take place in the time of the judgment of the living as shown in the preceding paragraphs, it follows that Michael is to stand up in the time of the judgment of the living and deliver His people from the anger of the nations -- the time of trouble -- or else it would be impossible to preserve the lives of all the 144,000; proving the fact that a change is to take place at the commencement of the judgment of the living -- Michael is to stand up for His people, take the "reins in His own hands" ("Testimonies to Ministers." p. 300) and deliver "every one that shall be found written in the book." (2SC #2 p4)

(7SC #7-12. 1941)

“As publishers of the Present Truth series of books and tracts in the interest of the Seventh-day Adventist denomination, our duty now is to work only within the church.  Then when we have accomplished this work (when the "firstfruits" therein have been sealed), Michael will stand up to deliver every one whose name is found written in the book (Dan. 12:1)--every one who has the seal: for they are then entering into the time of trouble such as never was.  And while standing, He shall send "this pure, true, sanctified ministry" (B:55-1886), 144,000 in number, "unto the nations" to declare His glory among the Gentiles" (Isa. 66:19), and to deliver the rest of His people.” (7SC #7-12 pp17, 18) See p 19 also.)

MICHAEL STANDS UP IN TIME OF TROUBLE

(2 TG #7. 1948)

“At that time (that is, at the time the king of the north comes to his end and none help him) shall Michael stand; and at the same time there shall be trouble such as never was even to that very time.  Only God's people, who have their names written in the book, will be delivered.  None other.

“Do you now realize that not only the time of trouble is at the door, but even this special resurrection?  Do you actually see that in the time of trouble, while the living saints are being delivered these dead who rise "to everlasting life," are also delivered from their graves?  Do you realize that this time of trouble is in "the great and dreadful day of the Lord," the day which the promised prophet Elijah announces?  (2 TG. No. 7 pp.10, 11)

“So, only those who survive the Judgment for the Living, in the house of God (1 Pet. 4:17), those whose names are not blotted out from the Book (Rev. 3:5) will comprise the church, among whom are to be 144,000 sons of Jacob (Rev. 7:3-8), and when Michael stands up then those whose names are left in the Book will be delivered [from] the "trouble such as never was" (Daniel 12:1).  They are "the remnant," the ones who escape alive from the Judgment for the Living in the House of God.” (1TG. #11 p11)

“And if the flying saucers are indeed the Lord's, then what else are they come for but to deliver every one whose name is found written in the Book (Dan. 12:1), and to slay those who oppress them (Isa. 66:1” (WR p11) (See 1TG #11 p13)  Could this be the miracle?

Michael stands up first at Ezek. 9 and again at the time the King of the North comes to his end, and at the same time there shall be a trouble such as never was, that this time of trouble is in the great and dreadful day of the lord. It is at this time that the Jacobites are delivered from the Mark of the Beast decree. In addition to those occurrences, the dead saints are also delivered from their graves, to everlasting life. All these are also post Ezek.9 events. (See 2TG #42 p29, WR p 25, 29)

The time of trouble, the anger of the nations, the blowing of the winds, the great and dreadful day of the Lord, are all one of the same event. (See 2 Ans. pp 91-93, 15Tr. pp 59-60)

WHO IS THE KING OF THE NORTH TODAY?

(2SC #1.1936)

Ques.  Does Brother Houteff have any light on who the "king of the north" or the "king of the south" represent?

“Ans.  The answer to the above question is found in "A Word to the Little Flock," one of the earliest S.D.A. publications, in which Sister White says: "I saw all that 'would not receive the mark of the Beast, and of his Image, in their foreheads or in their hands, could not buy or sell.  I saw that the number (666) of the Image Beast was made up'."--p. 19.  "Michael is to stand up at the time that the last power in chap. 11, comes to his end, and none to help him.  This power...is brought to view in Rev. 13:11-18.  His number is 666."--pp. 8, 9.

“The above explains that the two-horned beast is the one to whom the number 666 belongs; and that this beast, of "Revelation 13:11-18," and the "King of the North" of Daniel 11:45, are the same power.  Therefore, the nation represented by this particular beast, and the "King of the North," or the "man" who is to be the head--king--of that nation in the time when this "image beast" (the two-horned) enforces the worship of "his image," whose image is nothing less than the thing he made, are to make a likeness of the religio-political system of the "beast before him" (the leopard-like of Revelation 13:1-10); that is, a likeness of the papal system in the period before the leopard-like beast received his deadly wound.

“As the fulfillment of this prophecy is yet future, we cannot now tell who will then be the head (king of the north) of this prophetic nation (modern Babylon) that is symbolized by the two-horned beast.  (2 SC #1 p.8) (See 2SR. p151)

As present truth believers, we understand that the title, King of the North and South apply to different regime. In the Assyrian period, the King of the North represents England / U.S.A (See 1 TG #4 p22, 2 TG #42 p27) where as in the Babylonian period, it represents “the "man" who is to be the head--king--of that nation in the time when this "image beast" (the two-horned) enforces the worship of "his image.”

The Prophet identified the King of the North to be the same as the beast in Rev. 13:11-18, the two horn beast, the USA in the Babylonian period

In the Assyrian period, the fall of Assyria, the King of the North comes to his end, has reference to the same power and event. (See 2Tg. #7 p10, 14Tr. pp51, 52)

WHO WILL BE THE NEXT WORLD POWER,

 AFTER

THE KING OF THE NORTH COMES TO HIS END?

“The two-horned beast exercises all the power which the first beast, the leopard-like, exercised, again showing it to be a world power.  Indeed, it requires just such a power to compel all the inhabitants of the earth to worship as he commands, and to implement a likeness of a church and state government that is as outdated as are the Middle Ages themselves.  Yes, it takes such a power to influence the world, save those whose names are written in the Lamb's Book of Life, to bow down to it.

Rev. 13:13-15 - -"And he doeth great wonders, so that he maketh fire come down from heaven on the earth in the sight of men, and deceiveth them that dwell on the earth by the means of those miracles which he had power to do in the sight of the beast; saying to them that dwell on the earth, that they should make an image to the beast, which had the wound by a sword, and did live.  And he had power to give life unto the image of the beast, that the image of the beast should both speak, and cause that as many as would not worship the image of the beast should be killed."

“Here you see that this unification of the world, engendered to bring peace and harmony out of the present chaos, will instead bring an even greater time of trouble.  And why? -- Because though the beast may bring Communism and Capitalism to mutual agreement, and cause them to bow down to the image of the beast, yet those whose names are written in the Lamb's Book of Life will never comply.  From this you see that the whole plan is directed by a supernatural power whose aim is to boycott the people of God.  They shall nevertheless be delivered.

“When the beast's decree is passed that no one can buy or sell, and should be killed for non-conformity, then God only can protect His people, the people whose names are written in "The Book."  Such is His faithful promise: "And at that time shall Michael stand up, the great Prince which standeth for the children of thy people: and there shall be a time of trouble, such as never was since there was a nation even to that same time: and at that time thy people shall be delivered, every one that shall be found written in the Book." Dan. 12:1.

Rev. 13:16, 17 -- "And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads: and that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name."

“This power, you see, is to control the world's markets, too.

“This symbolic forecast of the world government to be set up, plainly points out that the coming world government is to be neither the U.N., nor Communism, but an ecclesiastical power.  We know that it is not Communism, because Communism is against religion, and the beast is for it. (2 TG. #17 pp 10-11)

Rev. 17:14-18 -- "These shall make war with the Lamb, and the Lamb shall overcome them: for He is Lord of lords, and King of kings: and they that are with Him are called, and chosen, and faithful.  And He saith unto me, The waters which thou sawest, where the whore sitteth, are peoples, and multitudes, and nations, and tongues.  And the ten horns which thou sawest upon the beast, these shall hate the whore, and shall make her desolate and naked, and shall eat her flesh, and burn her with fire.  For God hath put in their hearts to fulfill His will, and to agree, and give their kingdom unto the beast, until the words of God shall be fulfilled.  And the woman which thou sawest is that great city, which reigneth over the kings of the earth."

“Again, the fact that the ten horns (kings) have one mind (unlike the toe-kings of Daniel 2:42, 43), but have no kingdom of their own, besides the fact that the woman rules the beast, and also the fact that the Communist leaders (crownless kings) of the nations and have one mind (work together for one common cause), -- all these facts show that though Communism appears to be the next power to rule the world, this symbolical prophecy points out that the world will next be ruled by an international religious system, by Babylon the Great, a rival of the religion of Christ, and a counterfeit of the woman in Revelation chapter 12.  The scarlet-colored beast, therefore, is the symbol of the world government into which the United Nations will finally evolve.

“We have therefore again seen that the final world government is to be neither Communistic nor Capitalistic, but ecclesiastical and more in favor of Capitalism than Communism.” (2 TG. #18 pp 19, 20, 27)

“Now from the manifest similarity between the leopard-like beast and the scarlet-colored beast, one should recognize that the latter is the image of the former, his deadly wound having been healed and his horns uncrowned. The crownless horns of the latter show that he represents the world in a time in which there are no crowned kings, but that instead the world is ruled by an ecclesiastical head -- the woman that drives the beast.

”Moreover, the statement, "the ten horns...are ten kings, which have received no kingdom as yet; but receive power as kings one hour with the beast" (Rev. 17:12), positively imports that the crowned kingdoms of today, which emerged from fallen Rome, and which are represented by the crowned horns of the leopard-like beast, will be uncrowned, dethroned.

”The crownless horns of the scarlet-colored beast, moreover, "have one mind," and "give their power and strength unto the beast" (Rev. 17:13) while the woman "reigneth over the kings of the earth." Rev. 17:18.

”Her sitting on the heads (Rev. 17:9), denotes that she is to control the churches; and her driving the beast denotes that she is to be the sovereign of the world. This system of worship and reign is not a new thing under the sun, for "in her was found the blood of prophets, and of saints, and of all that were slain upon the earth." Rev. 18:24. She is, therefore, rightly called Babylon, the name of the oldest, the first, world empire -- the type.

”This antitypical Babylon, from which God's people at this time are to be called out, is even to monopolize the world's commerce, as is clearly revealed in the prediction that when her reign ends, then shall--

"...the merchants of the earth...weep and mourn over her; for no man buyeth their merchandise any more: the merchandise of gold, and silver, and precious stones, and of pearls, and fine linen, and purple, and silk, and scarlet, and all thyine wood, and all manner vessels of ivory, and all manner vessels of most precious wood, and of brass, and iron, and marble, and cinnamon, and odours, and ointments, and frankincense, and wine, and oil, and fine flour, and wheat and beasts, and sheep, and horses and chariots, and slaves, and souls of men....

"The merchants of these things, which were made rich by her, shall stand afar off for the fear of her torment, weeping and wailing, and saying, Alas, alas that great city, that was clothed in fine linen, and purple, and scarlet, and decked with gold, and precious stones, and pearls!

"For in one hour so great riches is come to nought. And every shipmaster and all the company in ships, and sailors, and as many as trade by sea, stood afar off, and cried when they saw the smoke of her burning, saying, What city is like unto this great city! And they cast dust on their heads, and cried, weeping and wailing, saying, Alas, alas that great city, wherein were made rich all that had ships in the sea by reason of her costliness! for in one hour is she made desolate." Rev. 18:11-13, 15-19.

”So, shortly after it is set up, this federation of church and state will be plunged headlong into oblivion, even as a great "millstone" that is cast into the sea (Rev. 18:21). And the cry of her mourners shall be: "In one hour so great riches is come to nought. Rev. 17:12; 18:10

“The "ten horns" of the scarlet-colored beast (the rulers which she dominates for an hour) ultimately "shall make her desolate and naked, and shall eat her flesh, and burn her with fire." Rev. 17:16. Thus at length they shall unseat her forever, and the system which she symbolizes, the "image of the beast," shall be demolished." (TR. #12 pp 32-35)

HIS LAST ACT

"And he shall plant the tabernacles of his palace between the seas in the glorious holy mountain; yet he shall come to his end, and none shall help him." Dan. 11:45.

”It is self-evident that planting "the tabernacles of his palace" cannot mean planting his capitol. The tabernacles, therefore, may denote a branch of his palace. And his choosing to plant them "in the glorious holy mountain," indicates that the place is intended to attach to his tabernacles the holiness of the Christian's God. Investing the tabernacles of his palace with such sanctity, can mean that it is to house the headquarters of the soon-coming ecclesiastical world-government, which we have already considered.

”But one location, perhaps Mount Sinai, is "between the seas" -- the Red Sea and the Mediterranean. His choosing it instead of Jerusalem, implies that it is because Palestine, as well as Edom, Moab and Ammon, shall "escape out of his hand."

”The statement, "he shall come to his end, and none shall help him," shows that he has previously been helped by some other power, and that he will not continue long thereafter, and most likely means that his ecclesiasticism will be overthrown by the horns of the scarlet-colored beast (Rev. 17:16).

”It now being apparent that "the tabernacles of his palace" are supposed to represent holiness, and that the woman riding the beast (Rev. 17:3), settles the world's social, economic, political, and religious problems, the truth is clear that the present Christian governments are to be reorganized, and ruled by an ecclesiastical head -- not by Hitler.

”Our prayer, therefore, is that all make sure that their names be in Michael's Book of Life, for those whose names are not there, will be left to go down in eternal ruin.

”As parting reassurance that we are now living in the time of the end, and as that time is about to pass into eternity, we quote the angel's solemn words:

"And at that time shall Michael stand up, the great Prince which standeth for the children of thy people: and there shall be a time of trouble, such as never was since there was a nation even to that same time: and at that time thy people shall be delivered, every one that shall be found written in the book. And many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt." Dan. 12:1, 2. (Tr. #12 pp 89-91)

“The world sees communism as a hydra-headed monster behind a bush, and the nations are already, so to speak, smiting their knees one against the other while they look at it.  Their safety, however, does not depend on fear and armament, nor on the man we elect for president, but on God, on Him Who holds the earth in space, and Who still rules the affairs of mankind.  From the dawn of history till today the great nations that have fallen, fell when they were best armed and most independent of God.  This should be a great lesson to all, but who realizes it!

“God, therefore, for the sake of His own will puts in the hearts of the communists, or communist-like powers (the ten horns of the scarlet-colored beast who hate the woman, hate religion, as does communism) to "give their kingdom unto the beast, until the words of God shall be fulfilled." Rev. 17:17.

“Now, the statement to "give their kingdom" implies that they have a kingdom to give.  In verse 12, however, we are told that they "have received no kingdom as yet; but receive power as kings one hour with the beast." When both statements are put together then the statements say that communism could have a kingdom, could rule the world, but "God hath put in their hearts to fulfill His will, and to agree, and give their kingdom unto the beast, until the words of God shall be fulfilled."  They, therefore, only receive power as kings one hour with the beast, after which they destroy the woman, the church and state system, and take the kingdom to themselves (Rev. 17:17).  (For a detailed exposition of the seventeenth chapter of Revelation, read Tract no. 12,

“This prophetic statement, "God hath put in their hearts...to agree, and give their kingdom unto the beast," proves true what I tried to say awhile ago: That when any nation became great and on its own, without God, built a gigantic war machine for defense and aggression, then it was that that nation came to naught.  The tranquility and prosperity of any nation and people, therefore, depends on their stand with God, not on their military strength. (2 TG. #41 pp16-18)
